Orestis has a broad commercial practice in line with Chambers’ profile, and has particular interests in aviation, banking and finance, civil fraud and insurance.
Prior to joining Chambers, Orestis completed the LLM at the University of Cambridge, where he received the BRD Clarke Prize for ranking first in his year and the Chancellor’s Medal for distinction in English law. He was subsequently a Teaching Fellow at UCL.
Since joining Chambers, Orestis has undertaken a secondment at Appleby (Cayman), where he gained experience of complex offshore litigation.
Qatar Airways v Airbus
Acting (with Lord Wolfson KC, Rosalind Phelps KC, Laura John KC, Rupert Allen and Adam Rushworth) for Airbus in defence of a multi-billion dollar claim concerning the airworthiness of A350 aircraft sold to Qatar Airways, which had been listed for an initial 10-week trial. This was one of The Lawyer’s ‘Top 20 Cases’ of 2023.
VTB Capital v Republic of Mozambique [2024] EWHC 1957 (Comm)
Acting (with Timothy Howe KC, Rupert Allen and Daniel Edmonds) for VTB Capital in multiple proceedings arising from the so-called ‘Tuna Bonds’ controversy involving in excess of $2 billion of debt guaranteed by the Republic of Mozambique. This was one of The Lawyer’s ‘Top 20 Cases’ of 2023.
FW Aviation v VietJet [2024] EWHC 1945 (Comm)
Acting (with Akhil Shah KC, Richard Lissack KC and Niamh Cleary) for FWA in its claim worth in excess of $200m, arising from four aircraft leasing transactions. The claim raised complex and novel issues, including in relation to assignment, relief from forfeiture and the Cape Town Convention.

Assisting (during pupillage) in a successful strike out application of a LIBOR-rigging claim on the grounds of limitation and a failure to plead fraud adequately.
Vegesentials v Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank
Acting (with Giles Wheeler KC and Laura John KC) in defence of a vicarious liability claim alleging fraud on the part of a bank employee.
Pensions Misselling: Advising (with Ben Lynch KC) on multi-jurisdictional claims by British citizens overseas against various institutions for pensions misselling.
Advising (with Sebastian Said) an offshore bank on possible civil liability in unjust enrichment and knowing receipt as a receiving bank.

Arnage v Walkers
Acting (with Mark Simpson KC, Nico Leslie and Sebastian Said) for the defendant firm in a $490 million professional negligence claim in the Cayman Islands, one of the largest professional negligence actions ever heard in that jurisdiction, arising out of the uncovering of alleged frauds in a major Brazilian bank.
