The Ministry of Justice announced on 9 December 2016 that Her Majesty the Queen has approved the appointment of Marcus Smith QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 12 January 2017. He will be assigned to the Chancery Division.
Marcus Smith has been a member of Fountain Court Chambers since completing his pupillage here in 1992. He took Silk in 2010. As well as sustaining a very heavy and successful commercial practice, he has served as a Chairman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal, and is the author of the leading work on the law of assignment.
