Bankim Thanki QC appeared for the Bar Council (intervening) in the matter of R (on the application of Prudential PLC) v HMRC on 14-15 July.  Prudential and the ICAEW (intervening) seek to extend legal advice privilege to communications with accountants for the purposes of advice on tax law (on appeal from the judgment of Charles J in the Administrative Court).  Prudential were represented by Lord Pannick QC and the ICAEW by Charles Flint QC.  HMRC were represented by Timothy Brennan QC.  The Law Society (intervening) were represented by Sir Sydney Kentridge QC.  The Court of Appeal (Mummery, Lloyd and Stanley Burnton LJJ) has reserved judgment.
