Acting (led by Richard Lissack KC and Jacob Turner) for the “Maduro Board” of the Central Bank of Venezuela in litigation concerning the right to represent, and give directions on behalf of, the Central Bank in relation to c. US$2 billion of Venezuela’s international reserves held in the Bank of England’s vaults and c. US$120 million held by court-appointed receivers.


R (PACCAR Inc) v CAT [2023] UKSC 28

Assisting with an appeal to the Supreme Court on the issue of whether litigation funding agreements which entitle the funder to a share of damages recovered are “damages-based agreements” within the meaning of the relevant regulatory legislation (during pupillage).

The proceedings, which were expedited both at first instance and in the Court of Appeal, raise complex issues of US banking law and the proper approach to the valuation of a company for the purpose of call options.
