Fountain Court is pleased to welcome Professor Darius Chan as a new door tenant of Chambers.

Darius is an independent arbitrator, advocate and academic. He is an experienced practitioner, and is concurrently Associate Professor of Law (Practice) at Singapore Management University School of Law, and the Deputy Director of the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy.  He is fully bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Besides counsel work, Darius has experience sitting as arbitrator, and serving as an expert witness on arbitration law.  Darius speaks and publishes widely, and his writings have been cited by the Singapore High Court and Court of Appeal.

Darius’ work spans Asia, including China, India, Korea, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan. His work covers a similarly wide industry spectrum, including finance, energy, projects and infrastructure, joint venture and corporate, commodities and transport. Darius is accustomed to collaborating with local counsel on both advisory and contentious mandates.

Prior to commencing independent practice, Darius spent a decade practising with international law firms in London and Singapore. He served as a Justices’ Law Clerk and Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court of Singapore between 2007 to 2009. Darius’ full profile can be seen here.

Bankim Thanki QC, Fountain Court’s Head of Chambers, said:

We are delighted that Darius Chan has joined us as our latest door tenant. Darius brings with him extensive experience in international arbitration and is in the position to work with clients fluently in English and Mandarin Chinese.

With several members and door tenants based in the Asia-Pacific region, supported by Caroline McConnon (our Practice Manager, Asia), Darius’ arrival will further strengthen Chambers’ profile in the region.”

Professor Darius Chan said:

“I am excited to join a set of the calibre of Fountain Court Chambers as a door tenant.  Fountain Court distinguishes itself by its strong commitment to the Asia region. I look forward to widening the breadth of its offering in this region and beyond.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the partners at Norton Rose Fulbright Ascendant – especially Yu-En Ong, KC Lye, Wilson Ang and Kei-Jin Chew – for their unstinting support over the past five years.”

Yu-En Ong, Head of the Singapore Office at Norton Rose Fulbright (Asia) LLP, commented:

“We have always valued Darius’ work ethic and aptitude to see what the client wants without missing the woods for the trees. Darius has a strong reputation in the industry and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career.”
