Raymond Cox QC and Niamh Cleary have joined other leading Singaporean practitioners in contributing to the newly released title ‘Law and Practice of Commercial Litigation in Singapore’, published by Sweet & Maxwell (October 2015).

It is an honour to be part of such a publication, as Fountain Court were the only barristers invited to contribute and the only non-Singaporeans. The editors were Kannan Ramesh JC and Tan Chuan Thye SC of Rajah & Tann and the other highly esteemed contributors came from top local law firms: Allen & Gledhill, Amica Law, Braddell Brothers, Drew & Napier, Pinsent Masons MPillay, Rajah & Tann, Rodyk & Davidson, Straits Law, Tan Kok Quan Partnership and Wong Partnership.

The book provides an in-depth, comprehensive and practical look at the practice of commercial litigation in Singapore and places emphasis on tactics, strategy and practical guidance.

Raymond Cox QC and Niamh Cleary contributed the chapter: ‘Opening and Closing Submissions’ and to which Kannan Ramesh JC referred to in his Foreword. Kannan Ramesh JC welcomed how “the authors of the chapters on pleadings, and opening and closing submissions do not content themselves with explaining the rules and principles relating to the topic. They also demonstrate those rules and principles in action by providing their own examples of pleadings and structures of submissions drafted in the context of a hypothetical case. Such demonstrations…in more substantive books like this… is novel and certainly welcome”.
