Chief Justice Smellie has recently handed down judgment in the Cayman Islands in an important offshore case authority examining the fiduciary duties of attorneys, the circumstances in which the lawyer-client relationship will arise, conflicts of interest and the defence of illegality.   Anneliese Day QC instructed by Richard Annette of Stuarts Walker Humphries and Anthony Akiwumi as Counsel of Etienne Blake successfully obtained summary judgment as to liability for the plaintiffs in proceedings against Walkers solicitors.  Mark Simpson QC, instructed by Applebys (Sebastian Said) acted for Walkers.  A copy of the Judgment is available here.  Walkers are seeking to appeal.
