One of our junior tenants, James Duffy, was mentioned in an article in The Sunday Times on 2 November 2008 entitled “Changing class grows easier”.  The article dealt with the issue of social mobility and how this may have changed in recent years. James was interviewed to provide an example of such social mobility and he explained how he was helped along the way. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article5063029.ece

This issue of assisting social inclusion has been a key focus of the Bar. Fountain Court’s Head of Chambers, Timothy Dutton QC (the current Chairman of the Bar Council) comments:

“The Bar Council has been meeting this year with the Sutton Trust in order to expand the work which the two organisations undertake with each other – and to encourage future James Duffys to come the Bar. We have programmes with the Social Mobility Foundation, the Sutton Trust, the Citizenship Foundation and other initiatives all of which help to make the law and the Bar in particular a possible career for those from non traditional backgrounds. James being a member of Fountain Court underscores the profession’s desire to reach out to encourage talent to the profession no matter where it comes from.”
