Paul Martenstyn
Team Leader
Paul Martenstyn joined Fountain Court as a Team Leader on 1st December 2008. Paul started clerking in 1997 focusing primarily on commercial and insurance work which is among the key practice areas at Fountain Court. Most recently Paul held the position of first junior in a leading set deputising for his then Senior Clerk before accepting the position at Fountain Court Chambers.
In early 2007 Paul became the first barristers’ clerk to be awarded a professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Marketing. This involved a gruelling 30,000 word dissertation over an 18 month period. As a result of this qualification he was awarded the ‘Marketer of the Month’ prize by the prestigious ‘Marketer Magazine’ in October 2007. He was also invited to give a groundbreaking presentation at the Bar Council in April 2008 to discuss his qualification and the role of the modern clerk with delegates attending nationwide. As a result of this presentation a number of clerks have now become CIM qualified.
Paul’s role as Team Leader gives him responsibility for tasks such as focused practice development, fee negotiation and assessment, effective diary management, allocation of instructions and briefs and management of the junior members of the clerking team. He is responsible for a team of barristers varying from leading silks to junior members of chambers. His role also allows him to focus on strategic marketing in conjunction with business development.
Paul represents the Clerking team on the chambers marketing committee.
Outside of work Paul’s interests include most sports especially tennis, boxing and when he has time golf.

Legal 500 (2009)
The set’s revitalised clerksroom ‘operates particularly well, providing a very reliable service‘, and saw the ‘highly commercial’ Paul Martenstyn supplement Alex Taylor’s hard work.
