Marcus Smith QC appointed to the High Court

The Ministry of Justice announced on 9  December 2016 that Her Majesty the Queen has approved the appointment of Marcus Smith QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 12 January 2017.  He will be assigned to the Chancery Division.

Marcus Smith has been a member of Fountain Court Chambers since completing his pupillage here in 1992.  He took Silk in 2010.  As well as sustaining a very heavy and successful commercial practice, he has served as a Chairman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal, and is the author of the leading work on the law of assignment.

Head of Chambers, Stephen Moriarty QC said: “Marcus will be sorely missed as a member of Chambers, but it is a first rate appointment, and we all wish him well in this new stage of his career”
